🧬 Marketers MUST Evolve + Adapt
Especially in this fast-paced world, where everything in our business is constantly changing

Welcome to Thursday. Marketing is all about evolution and adaptation.
When do you and your team try something new? What is your process for evaluating what your team has been doing, and finding insights to determine the things you should start doing?
Adaptation is directly correlated with speed. Speed, by itself, in marketing is not always important, but rather a valuable skill to keep in your back pocket just in case you need to quickly adapt to the world around you. What is your process for identifying trends and deciding if you should participate? What technologies have you employed in order to keep up with the times? How do you keep up-to-date on software and databases?
These questions are vitally important to consider. Marketing is one of those professions, next to tech, that has to constantly evolve and adapt; marketers, if they want to keep top-of-mind for their customers, build brand equity and ultimately convert their customers, have to find new ways of reaching and communicating with said customers…
We’ll get more into this below, during this week’s Strategy time…
Let’s jump in👇🏼
This week in marketing

This is where we share our favorite ad each week, some old, some new👇🏼
A simple, genius spot from DoorDash💡 Now running during NFL football games in the United States, the “Timeout, Order in” campaign launched just last week. The commercial immediately gets your attention for two simple reasons: there is not any immediate sound, and there is minimal motion. In another version, actor Brendan Hunt (seen in this spot sitting on top of “TIMEOUT”) can be seen pushing a sled across the bottom of the screen behind the QR code, very slowly.
Another great characteristic to these “Timeout, Order in” spots is the oversimplified CTA. The QR code does not move, the ask and task are both super easy for the viewer.
Enjoy!

Marketers have to adapt and evolve: Staying at the forefront of the industry
It cannot be overstated the importance of constantly evolving and adapting in your marketing practice. Of course, evolution does not happen overnight. Evolution is a longtail process that requires careful, systematic adjustments and improvements that are not cultivated from day-to-day learnings. Meaning, in the same way that overhauling your strategy in October based solely on results during September for any marketing campaign is unwise, so is forcing evolution in your marketing approach.
Adaptation requires a certain level of perspicacity to understand how and what you should adapt to. Meaning, trying to follow every trend every time there is a new trend is a terrible strategy. Some trends - regardless if it’s a TikTok dance or a new platform that’s getting a lot of attention in the moment - should be left alone, and aren’t worth the energy of you and your team.
More examples of the effect of adapting and evolving in marketing
Evolving for Relevance: To stay relevant, a company must keep pace with industry advancements and changing consumer expectations. For instance, the rise of digital platforms has transformed the way people shop, compelling businesses to shift their focus from traditional to online marketing. Those who embrace this evolution are more likely to thrive.
Adapting to Consumer Insights: Informed by data and feedback, adaptation ensures that marketing strategies align with consumer preferences. By continually monitoring and analyzing consumer behavior, companies can tailor their messages and offerings, enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Seizing Emerging Opportunities: The marketing landscape constantly presents new opportunities, such as emerging social media platforms or novel advertising technologies. Businesses that adapt quickly can harness these opportunities for growth and competitive advantage.
Navigating Challenges: Challenges like economic downturns or unexpected market shifts require adaptation. Firms with adaptable structures and strategies are better equipped to weather storms and emerge stronger on the other side.
Innovation and Creativity: Evolving and adapting foster innovation. Employees in a dynamic environment are more likely to experiment with fresh ideas, leading to creative marketing campaigns and novel approaches that captivate audiences.
Demonstrating Commitment: An organization that evolves and adapts signals to its stakeholders that it's committed to continuous improvement and staying at the forefront of its industry. This can attract top talent, investors, and customers.
Long-Term Sustainability: Finally, businesses that prioritize evolution and adaptation position themselves for long-term sustainability. They're not just focused on short-term gains but are building the resilience required to thrive in an ever-changing marketplace.
