📚 It's time to get back to school

Parents clench their budgets, kids get out of the house

Welcome to Thursday. School is almost back in session in the United States, with many schools resuming classes as soon as next week. For marketers everywhere, this presents a significant challenge: tighter spending on non-essentials. It's widely understood that consumers with children tend to be more mindful of their spending as they prepare to send their kids back to school.

In fact, Deloitte is forecasting that sales in the tech and apparel spaces will be down 13 - 14% YOY, respectively. Check out the 2023 Deloitte back-to-school survey here.

This is where we share our favorite ad each week, some old, some new👇🏼

What an incredibly on point, hilarious execution by Amazon😂

Coincidentally, it aligns perfectly with the insights we provided in the intro about parents tightening their budgets around back to school season. Every good parent wants to give their kids the tools they need to be successful, but not every one of them is willing (or able) to “pay out the a—.”

Great messaging. Very, very well executed. Enjoy!

📚 The best teachers in marketing…

Marketing is a dynamic field that plays a pivotal role in today's business landscape. Whether you're a seasoned professional looking to expand your skills or a beginner eager to dive into the world of marketing, there are numerous ways to learn the ropes. Let's explore some effective methods for mastering marketing:

1. Follow the Experts:

One of the best ways to learn marketing is by following industry experts. Social media platforms and online resources provide access to a wealth of knowledge from seasoned marketers. Engage with their content, read their blogs, and watch their videos. By keeping tabs on these thought leaders, you'll gain valuable insights, stay updated on trends, and learn about innovative strategies.

2. Learn from Big Brands:

Big brands like Nike have perfected the art of marketing. Analyzing their campaigns and strategies can provide valuable lessons. Study their messaging, storytelling techniques, and engagement tactics. By dissecting successful brand campaigns, you'll gain a deeper understanding of what resonates with consumers and how to create impactful marketing materials.

3. Experiment with Organic Social Media:

Organic social media is a powerful platform for learning marketing hands-on. Create and manage your own social media profiles, post content, and interact with your audience. Experiment with different types of posts, observe engagement patterns, and refine your approach based on the feedback you receive. This practical experience will help you understand audience behavior and refine your content creation skills.

4. Start Small with Paid Advertising:

Don't be afraid to dip your toes into the world of paid advertising, even if you're on a budget. Platforms like Google Ads and social media networks offer easily-accessible advertising options. Start with a modest budget and carefully monitor the performance of your ads. Learning to optimize campaigns, target specific audiences, and analyze results will provide valuable insights into the mechanics of effective marketing. Keep in mind, paid advertising does not guarantee any given results, but it is a great vehicle to working on your marketing craft.
